]]>If you’re continuing to work from home, or your child has opted for virtual learning in Fall 2020, you may find yourself perplexed as to what spaces to use. Here are our tips for helping to create an environment to thrive in.
Designated Spaces. Having a designated working space for you and your child is key. You don’t have to have a separate room nor even a lot of space. It just must be designated, no matter how small. Create a homework corner or assign a specific homework seat so each child knows it’s time to try and do their best listening and work. And then try to create a room or nook that does the same for you.
Outside The Box. While you may normally not have considered certain spaces, this is the 2020 school year so anything goes. Have you considered making your office in the garage? With the garage door up and open, of course. Does that spare bathroom get any use or is it the perfect spot for all your zoom meetings (perfect spot meaning it has a door, of course). Your walk-in closet can become your dream at-home office with just a few changes. Think outside the box to create a happier home for everyone working within it.
Make It Fun. Let little ones help decorate their “classroom” or work space to make it feel special. Allow them to choose stickers, a name tag for their desk, folders, pencils, or other goodies. Add a chalkboard paint wall or section of removable chalkboard wallpaper for doodling or math problems. And once they’re space is set up, go have fun with yours. Picking out fun pens and file folders really never gets old.
Home Office Updates. If you already have a proper home office, update it to fully serve your needs. Whether that means adding a second monitor, higher quality printer, or a more comfortable chair is up to you. Need to design or build out an entire office? Adding on to your house or turning a back house into a separate office? We would love to design a space that helps you do your best work in a productive, enjoyable way. Give us a shout to start talking about your ideas.
A well designed space can truly change the emotional well being of your family. Allowing little ones to feel safe and supported while stepping in to virtual learning, and allowing yourself the time and privacy you need to work are game-changers. However you’re choosing to work and live this season, the HHC Living team is rooting for you.
]]>When it comes to making updates around your home, some things are obvious. Huge cracks in the driveway or chipped paint stand out, calling for necessary touch ups. ]]>When it comes to making updates around your home, some things are obvious. Huge cracks in the driveway or chipped paint stand out, calling for necessary touch ups. However, so many small items go unnoticed year after year, building up dust and problems. Here are 10 tiny updates to consider around your home.
Sheets. Without fail, sheets get used year after year with no updating. With all the time we spend in bed, having fresh, clean, high quality sheets are a small change that can make a huge impact. Here’s how to know when it’s time: if tears, stains, or damage is present; pieces are missing (like top sheet or second pillow case); if they’ve been washed so much they aren’t even comfortable anymore, or if you’ve had them since college. Time to let those bad boys go.
Trash Cans. Literally full of germs, garbage, and all things gross, trash cans rarely get cleaned or replaced. Opt for a new stainless steel beauty in a size and shape that works for your family and kitchen design. Don’t forget to update your outdoor bins, too.
Hampers. Imagine 20 years of containing your dirtiest, sweatiest clothing. Odds are just like those garbage cans, your hamper has never seen a good cleaning. Yikes. Consider an updated style or option that separates your colors from whites, or adult clothing from that of your kiddos.
Kitchen Goods. Take inventory of the smaller tools and items in your kitchen cabinets. Might it be time to replace the strainer you got in 1983? Or the set of chipped dishes you took when you moved out of your parents home? Other goodies to check out include sets of silverware, cups and mugs, drying racks, baking trays, and dull knives.
Garden Tools. Are you wearing gardening gloves from five years ago that have holes in them? Is your shovel rusted over? Pick up a new, colorful set of garden tools, gloves, pots, and maybe a new broom, too, if you’re feeling wild.
Cleaning Products. Steady yourself before looking in your cleaning cabinet. Products that are very, very expired may startle you. Be on the look out for changed smells or colors. Carefully dispose of products as instructed and then buy new, updated options that will make cleaning easier and, dare we say, fun.
Small Decor. We’re not asking you to update your entire set of living room furniture (though we’re happy to do so, if you’d like), just a few smaller pieces here and there. Clocks, lamps, picture frames, baskets, and pillows are great places to start. Things like your every day or holiday decor, and fake flowers are even smaller starting spots.
Towels. Oh, towels. Just like their cousin, Sheets, towels so frequently get neglected when making updates around your home. Bath towels, kitchen towels, hand towels, washcloths, and even pool towels could probably be completely replaced or at least have a few new additions to the group.
Mats. Another multi-category item, the mats of your life may need to be updated. Entryway mats, outdoor welcome mats, and kitchen mats see a lot of walking and shoes. If the pattern, phrases, or depth have been completely worn down, it’s time for new ones.
Small Appliances. Last but not least, other often forgotten items are small appliances. When did you get your toaster? How about that coffee maker from the 90’s? Let us introduce you to the magic of a Nespresso or Keurig! While the phrase “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” is true, and there’s something to be said for favorite kitchen items, it’s also okay to make updates or choose upgrades even if the old one still works.
While we love making grand changes to interiors, tiny updates can make a powerful impact. Whether you’re ready for a renovation or simply need help selecting new items, the team at HHC Living has got you covered.

Have a dream destination on your bucket list? Why not create a room around it? For example, say Paris is where you’d book a flight to tomorrow, opt for a Parisian themed bedroom. Find artistic sketches of the Eiffel Tower, hang a chic chandelier, and stick with a romantic color palate. String up some lights and tuck French books onto the shelves and you’ll feel like you’ve woken up in Paris.
Perhaps a tropical getaway is more your style. Pick out a colorful and classic palm print wallpaper for an accent wall. Opt for cane or rattan based furniture, as opposed to classic wooden looks. Palm trees and pineapples work as featured symbols in accent pieces. Breathtaking ocean photography over the bed will fully round out this look.
For an endless vacation atmosphere, create a luxury hotel room right at home. The highest quality bedding pairs perfectly with a wildly comfortable bed. Matching nightstands with wall sconces, wall to floor blackout curtains, and minimal clutter will have you convinced you need to hang a do not disturb sign on the door.
Setting up your master bathroom to feel spa-like and relaxing is another fast way to feel like you’re traveling. Stock the shower with travel size or favorite scented shampoos and conditioner, use all white towels, and pick out a plush bath mat to keep underfoot. Easily reachable items like a hairdryer, body lotion, and sweet smelling candle keep things organized and relaxed. A luxury robe and soft slippers waiting for you complete the zen experience.
Let your destination vision board come to life throughout the rooms of your home through interior design and, who knows, maybe one day soon you’ll cross every spot off that bucket list.

Click through to get inspired to make your home as festive as possible no matter how you’ll spend the day.
You can use what you already have at home to decorate for the 4th of July this year, especially if you’re not looking to spend a lot of money on decorations. Have kids go on a scavenger hunt for everything in patriotic hues and then decorate accordingly. Be on the lookout for throw pillows, blankets, balloons or toys, pinwheels, fake flowers, bows from holidays past, and anything nautical or flag themed, of course.
Another fun family activity for the 4th of July is to DIY decorations using paint, streamers, paper or canvases, burlap, jars, and other arts and crafts supplies.
Want to make it even sweeter? Use candy and baked goods to set the scene (and the table!) for a festive look that also has dessert done and ready for the day.
However you decorate, the most important thing is being healthy and with loved ones, when possible, while celebrating what truly matters.
From our family at HHC Living to yours, we wish you a happy, safe, and fun July 4th, 2020!

]]>No matter how much interior design changes throughout the years, one constant remains in that neutrals are always in style. Click through for our neutral designs and ideas to incorporate these reliable hues into your home.
Neutral colors have an instantly calming effect and work well in nearly any room. Think about when you step into an all white bathroom or master bedroom filled with shades of tan and cream. Soothing, right? With so much going on in our lives, relaxing in a room of minimal colors is a necessary retreat.
While most consider white, black, grey, and tan/brown family of colors to represent neutrals, others believe shades of blue or the palest pink also work. Some hold firm that metallic colors such as gold, silver, or bronze are neutrals, too. Whatever you decide to qualify as a neutral shade is ultimately up to you.
The biggest misconception among neutral interior design isn’t which shades belong so much as that it’s boring. This couldn’t be further from the truth! Neutral interior design makes putting an entire home together easy and cohesive.
Sticking with neutrals means you can incorporate large, colorful artwork or captivating photography. Darker neutrals like browns and blacks can be really helpful when living with kids, as stains and messes are easier to clean up and hide.
Neutrals also allow for endless pattern opportunities in the form of accent walls, decor, bedding, and area rugs. Whatever pop of color or pattern is used will truly stand out instead of just being one more busy thing in a house full of colors.
Whether inside or on exteriors, in the kitchen or guest room, used on walls or for furniture, or in a starter home or multi-generational house, neutrals work. If you’re feeling intimidated by working with neutral shades, or simply want a whole home makeover to allow for a more peaceful living environment, we at HHC Living can take all the guesswork out of it. Give us a call today and you’ll be one step closer to the house of your dreams.

It’s no secret blue is a fan favorite across the boards. Nearly every house contains elements of blues woven throughout it’s features. The varying shades from light sky to deep indigo will satisfy even the most critical taste.
Blue will work on the exterior of one’s home whether as siding, molding, or front door hue. Indoors, blue can cover wall to wall or be designated for small decor pieces, artwork, or fabrics only. The outcome remains the same in that blues will work.
Blue is known to be calming for children and adults alike and is perfect for bedrooms or cozy homework nooks. Think of how soothing the ocean is, or how lovely staring at the sky can feel, and that’s the kind of zen you can expect from a well designed blue room.
Embrace those coastal vibes or classic patriotic feels and incorporate blue into your home today. HHC Living is happy to help you create the blue oasis of your dreams. Contact us today to enjoy your interiors with a true blue kind of love.

Home matters now more than ever. After several months indoors, we’re sure you have a new appreciation for the walls you live within. We’re also sure you’ve spotted a few areas of improvement in your home, too. Not to mention design changes, upgrades, or total gut jobs you’d like to do.

Expand
If your family home is feeling a touch small, now may be the right time to consider an expansion project. What kind of space have you been dreaming of while in isolation? Would you do anything for a grand master suite to escape the chaos and questions that come with kids? Speaking of, would an extra bedroom solve fights between siblings who currently share a room? What about a luxury sunroom or designated laundry area to save trips up and down basement steps?
Whatever you’re dreaming of, we can help you do it. Not only by designing interiors specifically for you, but by connecting you to our contractor and renovation expert community to ensure you get the very best help. While DIY projects are fun, it’s crucial to have professionals tend to electric, gas, water, and foundation work.
Update
If a major overhaul is too much to consider right now, simple updates can alleviate stress and create a more harmonious vibe. Adding stools to your island creates a perfect classwork spot and offers additional seating. Paint rooms, refresh the front porch, or add new floor-to-ceiling drapes. Select new bedding and bath mats to make your master bed feel like a hotel suite.
While the idea of busting down a wall sounds so appealing, we know right now it might not be the best time financially or health wise. We’re here to advise on ideas, projects, and source you items that fit your needs.
Rearrange
Now that you’ve been inside awhile, you may have realized the flow of your house is counterproductive to how your family lives. By swapping out locations of rooms, say a nursery for a guest bedroom, the layout of your house might make way more sense.
Alternatively, perhaps it’s just a room itself that feels out of place. Would reversing your sofa create a more welcoming atmosphere? Perhaps your dining table actually goes best in the center of a room instead of the corner. What would create a peaceful feeling and flow for your family? Don’t be afraid to move things around as you can always put them back; and as a bonus, you’ll get a great workout!
When making decisions, ask yourself if you can easily walk through every room and the house as a whole. Can you carry meals from the kitchen to the place your family eats? Is it possible for little ones to get from their rooms to the bathroom? Can you get in and out of doors safely? Remove obstacles and watch as life gets a little easier.
As we’ve all recently learned, there’s truly no place like home. Let’s make sure yours is working for you, your family, and your needs. Preparing for a future much brighter than current times, while honoring where life is at right now, right where you are.

Pull up a seat! Or a stool, or even a piece of curb. We’ve got warm weather and fresh air and it’s time to head outside. Ready for our three secrets to setting up an incredible outdoor living space? Let’s go!
]]>Pull up a seat! Or a stool, or even a piece of curb. We’ve got warm weather and fresh air and it’s time to head outside. Ready for our three secrets to setting up an incredible outdoor living space? Let’s go!
When it comes to setting up your dream outdoor space, consider three important aspects: size, set up, and serving.
Size
When it comes to allotted space, no size is too big or small for outdoor living. Even a small cement stair can become a tiny paradise if you let it. Fold-able, stack-able chairs can become your new best friend as they can easily by tucked away to the side or put in a garage when not in use. Thin, lightweight, and cheerfully colored beach chairs may work as well.
Have an enormous outdoor area or multiple options? Determine what each will be used for and design accordingly. Large, spacious grassy areas are perfect for sports, playing games, and running around with pups, and can be generally left open. Patios are perfect for meals so table and chair sets reign supreme. Sunshine filled zones are great for baby pools and hammocks, or beautifully designed gardens.
Set Up
Before designing your personal outdoor paradise, take inventory of the area. Where do you enter your deck? What doorways and stairs need to be left open for easy and safe exits and entrances? Where will the heat of the sun hit and what sections remain mostly shaded? Are there sections that kids or pets should stay out of for safety or health reasons?
Once you’ve assessed the situation, remember that outdoor living areas are best seen as additional rooms. How would you set up a living room indoors? Apply that thinking to your deck, patio, pergola, or pavers. Set sofas and chairs at an optimal design for conversation, include small tables for drinks and snacks, and arrange area rugs where warm feet may be.
Serving
Last but not least, think of both who and what you’ll be serving in each individual outdoor area. First, who will be joining you on your deck? Who visits often in summer to hit the pool and play oversized yard games? Will seniors, babies, or kiddos be coming by? Ensure there’s enough seating that also fits the needs of you, those who share your home, and your most common guests.
Next, what will you be serving? Are you the all time summer grill master? Then you’ll need a designated grilling area (not to mention a grill). Would you be living your dreams by installing a full outdoor kitchen? Get those design plans going! Are you the type who goes in and out the entire afternoon to get cold water, fresh slices of watermelon, and a hot dog (or three)? A screened in, bug free area might be your winning dining ala fresca space.
We’d love to hear about your ideal outdoor areas or answer questions you may have about how to set things up. Follow us on Instagram or leave a comment below, or reach out to set up a virtual consultation. We can source every item you’ve ever dreamed of and then some, plus we promise to be sipping sweet tea or lemonade while we design so as to keep the summer theme steady. ]]>With Memorial Day Weekend around the corner, you may be busting out your American flag inspired decor. Whether you’re looking for new ways to display pride in our country, or want to infuse Americana style all year long, we’ve have ideas for you.
]]>With Memorial Day Weekend around the corner, you may be busting out your American flag inspired decor. Whether you’re looking for new ways to display pride in our country, or want to infuse Americana style all year long, we’ve have ideas for you.
Invest in large scale American flag inspired art to add a visual masterpiece and talking point for guests. Traditional images or flag prints will do, however modern, bold, or fun framed pieces, like the one seen above, will provide an element of Americana without the boldness of a standard flag on the wall.
Not into grand gestures? Think small! Pop tiny flags into floral arrangements, vases, jars, yards, or anywhere else your heart desires. The more, the merrier applies here as does variety in size.
Red, white, and blue patterned pillows layer perfectly on porches and sofas for cozy yet patriotic looks that last year round.
Another option to include year-long Americana style to your home is by thinking vertically. Hanging a flag or flag-themed art at a higher height anchors the room without overwhelming it. There’s a subtle sweetness to looking up and seeing a flag, letting it watch over the room while infusing national pride throughout.
Another fun idea is to quite literally paint a flag as an accent wall, as seen in this inspiring room above. Not only is this a fun weekend project, it will also work for all size budgets and rooms.
If you want to show the whole neighborhood how much you love the USA, hang banners, wrap railings and poles, and let the entire exterior of your home be covered in our country’s colors. Pending your local weather, you can leave this festive decor up all summer from Memorial Day straight through Labor Day.
Last but not least, bring that Yankee Doodle Dandy feeling to your design by setting a celebratory table. By adding place mats, plates, napkins, table runners, chair cushions, straws, or other items, the theming will catch every eye from kids to neighbors. Indoor or outside, this is a fast, fun, and frugal way to utilize Americana in any style you prefer from country to modern.
While we can’t all celebrate Memorial Day Weekend 2020 in the way we may normally choose, we can celebrate America all year long by incorporating Americana interior and exterior design throughout our homes. However you’re remembering this weekend, we hope you have a safe and relaxing time.
]]>Before we gallop into Summer 2020, it’s time to properly wrap up Spring. While this season may not have been what we’d dreamed of, there’s still plenty of good to celebrate and review.

]]>Take a minute to take in this beauty. Is there a more welcoming sight than a plush, cozy, made just-for-you Armchair? We think not. In this week’s blog we’re all about admiring and applauding the armchairs in our lives and dreaming up new armchairs for your home.
Well, well, well, if these aren’t delectable little morsels of interior design. Truth be told, armchairs really aren’t necessary if you’ve got a couch, chairs at a table, and other spots to sit. Which is exactly what makes them so special. They add an extra special element to your living spaces.
Accent chairs are an easy way to achieve balance in any space. By placing a pair opposite a sofa, you’ve instantly created a conversation station. When flanking a fireplace with matching armchairs, you’ve designed a perfectly symmetrical mirror image to greet guests and create a sense of calm.
While pairs are lovely, a single armchair is great, too. Whether space constraints only allow for one chair, or you prefer making a solo space to finally catch a minute of quiet, one accent chair works in bedrooms, nurseries, on the front porch, or really anywhere your heart desires. Pair a small table for tea or morning crossword puzzles, or stack books nearby. Utilize one incredible armchair at your vanity or in an oversized bathroom. The possibilities are endless.
When selecting your armchairs, opt for fabrics that feel inviting such as plush velvet or sink-right-into cotton. Easy to clean is an ideal consideration if you have little kids or pets. Go for an oversized option or opt for an ottoman or chaise if you enjoy sprawling out or are nearly never alone.
What kind of armchairs are in your home? Where’s the most surprising spot you have one tucked away in? Let us know in the comments!

]]>While tending to various updates and projects around your home, you may forget one very important aspect: look down! Flooring is often neglected when refreshing or updating spaces as it feels like too big of a project or simply goes unnoticed.
We’re here today to encourage you to update the rugs in your home with tips and inspiration.
Ready, Set, Rug Refresh!
All of these images from the HHC Living Portfolio truly showcase the broad range of styles, sizes, and ways to incorporate rugs within your home.
Here are ways to get the most out of your rug refresh in April 2020:
Consider rugs as pieces of art. What colors or designs inspire you? How can you utilize a rug as the focal point of the entire space? As one of the largest items in every room, rugs can truly make or break the entire aesthetic.
Layer rugs one on top of another for distinct variety and bold looks. Mix materials such as jute, cotton blends, and high quality wool. Layer a large solid colored rug on the floor and then a smaller, similarly shaped piece on top. As a bonus this adds to padding and comfort. You can also layer throw rugs on top of traditional wall-to-wall carpeting.
Rugs truly work anywhere. Pick out a new bath rug, put one under the end of your bed, and get an easy to clean kitchen runner. Hallways, guest rooms, entryways, and every outdoor space can benefit from rugs.
Pay close attention to how your rugs will be used. What types of people and pets live in your home? Will toddlers be playing (and spilling on) it? Will little paws catch their nails in each particular material? Is it a high traffic area or a hidden nook no one really goes in? Will design and feel matter, function may be most important in how to select rugs for your home.
As always, the HHC Living team is here for you! If you’re ready to set up a virtual consultation or get going on a design project, give us a ring. We’re also still able to do curbside pick up for our local HHC community. Have questions? Don’t hesitate to be in touch. Stay safe and we’ll be back with our next blog post soon!

With so much time spent indoors during the Spring of 2020, our windows have never been more important. If you’re seeking inspired natural light, the HHC Living portfolio has got you covered.
]]>With so much time spent indoors during the Spring of 2020, our windows have never been more important. If you’re seeking inspired natural light, the HHC Living portfolio has got you covered.
Whether inside or out, windows matter. How do you know what kind of windows to have in your home? Think about the amount of light you’d like in each room, what each will face (so what you’ll see and what others will be able to see inside your house), and the time of day you’ll be spending the most time in areas of the house. Southern exposure is great for all day sunshine but all other directions will have particular timing as to when the room is the hottest and brightest.
Think outside of the (window) box. Bathrooms are so often neglected when it comes to letting in light, many don’t have any windows at all. Consider other often forgotten spots such as your laundry room, garage, and exterior doors.
While you may not be able to upgrade or add new windows at this time, take inventory to ensure all safety requirements are up to date and there are no dangerous breaks or scratches to tend to. Make any important updates and test each lock. Last but not least, clean until you can see your own reflection! Or at least until the sun shines in easily.
We’re thinking of all of you as we navigate The Great Quarantine of 2020 and are wishing you all a happy, safe, and loved home to hunker down in. Please be in touch if we can be of any help with virtual design services, curbside pickup for local communities, or online ordering.

Real or fake, bunches or stems, flowers will bring a refreshing, encouraging energy to the indoors or outside of your space.
]]>Real or fake, bunches or stems, flowers will bring a refreshing, encouraging energy to the indoors or outside of your space.
Think Color
Quick: what colors automatically make you feel cheery? Perhaps bright pink makes your heart soar or sunshine yellow gives you a smile. When picking out flowers, choose blooms that incorporate colors that will intentionally lift you up.
You might also consider what colors aren’t traditionally used in your decor. Vibrant purples will really stand out in rooms full of neutral hues.
Plant Pretty
Get outside and take a look at your curb appeal. Where can you plant flowers to add a new element of fun? Consider lining walkways with low maintenance beauties or focus on empty areas on either side of your front door.
Have landscaping in place that you don’t want to mess with? Go for window boxes or hanging pots that will add to what’s already there without uprooting the overall look.
Family Fun
If you’re just about losing your mind being at home, working on flowers together may be the excitement you need. Nothing pairs better than little kids and dirt so get digging and embrace the mess. Want to attempt to keep things clean?
Teach older kids how to make a festive floral arrangement or press flowers in books for an educational yet fun afternoon activity.
Send Love
If the idea of planting, arranging, or even ordering fake flowers doesn’t thrill you, consider sending a beautiful bouquet to someone you love. Order online from local shops and send to relatives who live far away, friends celebrating birthdays in quarantine, or to those working on the front lines.
The surprise of receiving an unexpected delivery is extra special right now and you’re sure to make someone feel loved, missed, and important.
Tell us in the comments who you’re sending flowers to, or what kinds you love to see in your garden! As a reminder, HHC Living is currently open for local, curbside pick up and online design services. We’re here to help you continue to create a beautiful home, especially while you’re safely in it.

]]>Being at home all the time right now can start to feel a little repetitive. While it’s great to have a safe, clean place for you and your family to live, it’s also okay to want to make some updates while at home with time to do so. Here are four fast updates you can do for minimal money and time.
Swap out your artwork! Order new framed pieces that you’ve admired from afar (we know you have tons saved on Pinterest and Instagram). If shipping or pricing becomes an issue, order printable pieces on Etsy to print at home or pick up at a local print shop.
Hang Curtains (or replace with new styles). Curtains can truly bring a room together or create a refreshing new look. Not to mention the functionality that will help little ones sleep in a bit later (hopefully).
Paint cabinets in the kitchen or bathroom for a fun project that can involve older kiddos and adults. Remember to carefully tape off areas you don’t want painted and remove all items prior to beginning. Turn yellow-oak wood to crisp white, or sort-of-tan to a soothing grey or blue.
Rearrange furniture. For the cheapest way to update your interiors while staying home, rearrange your furniture! Swap pieces out from room to room, or distribute items into different spaces for an even bigger change. As a bonus, you’ll definitely get your workout in for the day.
However you choose to stay at home, we’re wishing you and yours all the best during these uncertain times.

One of the best parts of the color green is how it works in any space in your home, both indoors and outdoors. Light, sweet shades of green pair perfectly with nursery designs, while bold, bright green amps up a playroom. Hues of green-blues are ideal for calming bedrooms and rich olive tones will keep you focused in your home office.
While green isn’t always as popular as it’s cousins Blue, Yellow, and Grey, we encourage you to incorporate green into your home in any way possible. If not for the great design features than just to keep the luck of the Irish with you all year long. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

As opposed to traditional living spaces, a snugly nook should be small, contained, with just enough space for one or two, or a group of little ones all piled up together. Add warm blankets, plush pillows, and light muslin throws.
Opt for a pair of cozy chairs, oversized beanbags, or large floor pillows. If your nook warrants it, consider a chaise lounge or other small sofa, but remember to think small.
Let light in naturally from windows with sheer, flowing curtains, or bring in as much light as the corner needs. Tall, free standing lamps or wall sconces will do. Up the lighting if you plan to read often, forgo it if it’s only a place to catch some sun and a snooze.
Sets of anything look lovely and invite in more than one person. Match up or coordinate furniture in soft velvet, rich hues, or perfectly worn-in ways. The key here is welcoming, soothing, calming, and a sanctuary to retreat to for favorite books, homework help, or puppy cuddles.

]]>After the longest January in history (was it just us?), we’re delighted to swing into February. Here’s what we think February is perfect for.
February is for fixtures. Update, replace, or paint your current drawer handles, pulls, and accent lighting.
February is for fun. Let kids speak up about what kind of bedrooms or play areas they’d like to create. Add bold paint colors, festive patterns, or family favorites like a pool table, piano, or porch swing.
February is for fixing. Tend to any broken furniture, burnt out bulbs, or squeaky doors.
February is for finally. Take action on the home design project you keep putting off. Need professionals to step in? We’re happy to help take over so you can finally (finally!) cross it off your list.
What’s your February for? Family & Friends? Focusing on work? Festive celebrations? Leave us a note so we can join in the fun!

]]>Ready to take your interior design to the next level? It’s time to dive deep into pattern play.
The best part about patterns is they can be found truly in anything in your home. In just the first few photos, we’ve showcase pattern design in an outdoor rug, throw pillows, kitchen goods, and bathroom wallpaper. If patterns make you nervous, you can incorporate them slowly by using decor pieces. For a bolder move, get that wallpaper up and featured for guests to drool over.
Mixing patterns takes a skillful eye. While we know most people will figure it out, if you need a hand, that’s what we’re here for. We’re happy to help assist in your pattern selection, pairing, and placement, while working alongside you to create the home of your dreams.
Our hope for this post is that you’ll be less afraid to embrace your inner pattern lover, and begin to make fun choices for curtains, tile, bedding, or accent rugs. Bring on the chevron, floral, stripes, polka dots, checkered, and gingham.

Personalized Gifts
As the saying goes, monogram anything that can’t move. Gift your guy or gal personalized bath towels, pillowcases, or the most luxurious throw blanket money can be. Put their initials, full name, or nick name between the two of you. Bonus points for recently engaged couples as you can include his or her new last name.
Alleviate Chores
Every queen or king of your home has a house related task they truly despise. Select a service that will do this task for them for anywhere between one month and one year. If she hates cooking, bring on a personal chef or meal plan service that takes care of making meals. If he loathes mowing the lawn or gardening work, get that covered by the local teenager who needs cash or a full service lawn team. Personal shoppers, house cleaning services, and organizers all also make lovely gift ideas.
New Furniture
This goes without saying but if your loved one spends all their time on Pinterest, design blogs, and pouring through interior magazines, new furniture may be just the ticket. His or her social media will probably hold helpful clues, but the real hints are always in conversation. If she’s truly over not having a headboard, pick out a new bed. If your kitchen table is still the same one from your dorm days, invest in a new one. This doesn’t have to be a huge gesture, even a new table lamp, coat hanger, or welcome mat are small but impactful gifts.

For the most important interior design love of your life, why not gift a whole room or home refresh? Work with our exceptional interior designers here at HHC Living to create the look of his, her, or your dreams. We love creating a space that will surround and support your love, family, and future. Contact us to start the conversation, and don’t worry if it’s too late for this holiday – interior design services make the perfect gift all year long.
Happy Valentine’s Day 2020 to you and all the love in your life.

]]>While most say you can’t mix red and pink, we say why not? Check out some of our favorite inspired red and pink interior design ideas, and tips to incorporate this pair into your design.
Pink and red don’t have to be tacky. Think plush, smooth materials, like velvet. Embrace your inner royalty and let rich hues of red make bold statements around the house.
Can you imagine a lush red velvet chair at your vanity? How about a cheerful pink couch to lounge on during Saturday marathons of your favorite show? If you can picture a beautiful bouquet of red and pink flowers in the center of your table, you can picture pink and red design in your house.
Team up your new favorite pair with other color options to create different effects. Rock red, pink, and teal for a playful punch. Bring in orange and yellow to invite warmth into any room. Use grey, black, and white to opt for classic chic. Navy, light blue, and soft green will create a coastal hotel feel.
Still not sold? Vary shades by selecting light pinks and orange-reds. Consider opting for pops of these romantic colors within your wallpaper, decor, or bedding. Add more as you suddenly start to realize pink and red pair perfectly, both together and within your interior design.

]]>With the start of a new decade comes the thrill of new design trends. Let’s dive in to what’s new, what’s gorgeous, and what’s trending for interior design in 2020.
Our first trend prediction is focusing on what’s natural – natural materials, that is. You’ll see a trending pattern of rattan and cane everything. Whether you’re shopping at a high end interiors store or at Target, you can count on cane making an appearance. We’ll also see natural materials like marble and plenty of linen. Woven hangings are still hanging on (yep, we said it), and the continual uprising of handmade anything and everything will remain throughout 2020.
When it comes to 2020 interior design predictions, it’s all about the curves. While straight lines and sleek modern lines have had their day, curves and rounded edges are stepping in to take over. Perhaps reflecting the societal desire to soften things a bit, the sharp look is out and the inviting embrace of rounded edges is in. Curved couches, chairs, and chaise lounges will pair beautifully with rounded consoles, tables, lamps, and more.
Our third decor trend for the new year is more about creating a feeling than a specific design. 2020 finds folks more inclined to stay home, host family and friends over, and cook meals instead of going out to eat. The feeling of calm, safe, and inviting is a must for every house now. Soothing colors such as blues and greens will be featured, while plants hold strong as decor. Infusing the resident’s personality throughout the home while incorporating story-based pieces, such as inherited antiques or memory filled items, will lead the way into the new decade. While beautiful design is always a must, being able to look around and see the reflection of oneself in one’s home is truly trending.
Last but not least, sustainability is an absolute must. In the past, considering Mother Earth when designing one’s home was an after thought or not a thought at all. Sustainability has been tied to luxury, or something reserved only for certain kinds of people. Beginning in 2020, we’ll see sustainability become more common, and seen much more as a must instead of an option. Incorporating sustainable materials and considering sources will begin to be ordinary.
What interior design trend are you most looking forward to? Do you have a personal goal for your home design this year? Share with us in the comments!

Round
As an alternative to a traditional square shaped table, consider round or oval. The softness of this style can balance out sharp corners and edges found on cabinets or countertops. Often featuring a pedestal base, round tables are perfect for families to share meals together as everyone can see everyone else easily.
High Top
For a fun place to gather, opt for a high top table that’s perfect for after school snacks or family game nights. Sitting higher up provides the feeling of being out at your favorite restaurant which is sure to add extra enjoyment.
Rustic
For an unfinished, antique look that will catch the eye of any guest, opt for a rustic inspired table. Curved legs, off-white coloring, and benches or mismatched seating can finish this look up.
Mid-Century Modern
Sleek lines, simplicity, and tapered legs all create the classic mid-century modern kitchen table. Regardless of how contemporary your kitchen design is, this style table will blend in seamlessly. Natural wood and quality craftsmanship are key when opting for mid-century design.
Oversized
Have a large family or frequent visitors? Enjoy being a home where everyone can pull up a seat by utilizing an oversized kitchen table. Imagine special holidays, parties to celebrate happy events, and long, relaxed weekend breakfasts all gathered together right at the heart of your home.
Whatever table you choose, we wish you many delicious meals and happy memories surrounded by those you love.

White furniture and decor is so often avoided due to certain seasons of life such as young children, busy households, or lots of pets. While keeping up with cleaning is important, many fabrics and options allow for stain resistant, durable pieces. Instead of being afraid to embrace your winter whites, think of the positives.
Furniture, decorations, art, rugs, paint, and accessories all in beautiful fresh shades of white will add a crisp feeling to your home. Updating to our favorite snow colored hue makes anything old feel new again. Winter whites add an element of freshness and brightness that no other color can.
If going bold by swapping out a dark couch for a crisp new white one feels way too overwhelming, start small. Replace hand and bath towels with brand new white ones – as a bonus, toss them all in the wash together with a little bleach for super easy laundry. Fresh bath mats will also spruce up any bathroom. Select a duvet or comforter in hotel hues of bright white for a luxurious vacation feel even just at home. Paint kitchen cabinets or bedroom headboards white for an easy, cost effective change.
Pair this unique interior design style for 2020 with pale pinks, coastal colors, warm neutrals, or bold pops of color. Utilize gorgeous plants and natural light to create a refreshing sanctuary to live and work in. Wooden features, large artwork, and gallery walls will also stand out beautifully against an all white interior. It doesn’t have to be perfect, however you interpret winter whites within your home will be exactly right.
Whether there’s snow piled high outside your window or you’re still enjoy warm temperatures, bringing bold and bright white features into your interior design will add an element of renewal and fresh start for the new year. Tell us in the comments what you’d love to freshen up in your home with shades of winter white!

Bring On The Blankets! Add throw blankets to every room. Folded nicely along the bottom of each bed, placed on corners of couches, and even one for the front porch, will all add something extra special to each space.
Add Fire! Let’s be clear here, we’re talking super safe fire such as one made by an adult in your family’s designated fireplace, or delicious smelling candles that are placed out of reach of children. There’s nothing cozier than cuddling by the fireplace as snow falls outside.
Layer Up! Layer bedding with plush down comforters, swap out duvets, and update pillows. Layer rugs indoors for extra warmth under feet, and outside for a vibrant winter welcome. Layer dish towels, bath towels, and hand towels. Layer sweaters, too! Basically anything that can be layered will instantly improve cozy quality control.
Leave The Lights! You may be finished decorating for the holidays but consider leaving your twinkly lights up for the winter season. There’s something truly magical about strands of lights shining throughout your home or outdoor space. Keep a touch of holiday magic all throughout the year.
Winter is the perfect time to get cozy, settle in, and rest up for the start of the year. We hope you get to enjoy the quiet, cooler season with lots of snuggles and piles of blankets.

Decorating for the holiday season is a fun way to prepare your home for guests or to simply enjoy the seasonal decor for yourself. While living rooms, dining rooms, and kitchens are always go-to decorating spots, we tend to forget about many other places in our houses. Check out our top three picks for places you don’t want to forget to decorate to bring a little something extra to the season.

Bedrooms are an often looked over area for Christmas decorating! Why not add a fake tree decorated in glamorous silver and gold, or pinks and whites, to give you those festive feelings as soon as you wake up. If your kids are in charge of decorating the main family tree, this one can be just for you. Plus, there’s nothing like laying in bed at night with sparkly lights filling the room. It’s magical and special, your own little holiday retreat.
Consider also decorating guest rooms so your loved ones feel welcomed, or adding fun characters and lights to your children’s bedrooms. You may not want a Christmas Paw Patrol pup in your living room but in your youngest’s room? Go for it.
Another often missed spot for winter wonderlands are the bathrooms in your home. Decorate in a small way by adding simple garland and a candle that smells like fresh fir. Go big by adding red bows, plaid decor, and snowflakes a plenty to the primary bathroom or one specially designated for kids. You can also consider updating hand towels to fit the season or drawing on mirrors with erasable markers.
Add a bowl of mints, fun holiday soaps, peppermint hand lotion, and any other Christmasy items your guests may enjoy using. Bells on the door and a new bath mat will truly round out your bathroom decorations.
Last but not least, we encourage you to decorate your laundry room. With the winter months upon us, we’re all wearing plenty of layers. Multiply that times the amount of family members and you’ve got piles of laundry. If you’ll be in there getting everything clean, why not enjoy the sights? Vintage Santa, gaudy reindeer, items that were passed down or from your childhood, or anything that makes you smile is perfect for this spot. In other words, you can decorate with goodies you may not want in the main areas of your home but things you’d still like to see out this time of year.
If you’re not into decorating the entire room, swap out your laundry basket for something seasonal, hang a wooden sign with holiday greetings, or string up cards from years passed.
What’s your favorite room to decorate in your home? Is there a special place you decorate that most people forget? Tell us in the comments!
